About this session

Fiber is often associated only with digestion, but it also has an important place in heart-supportive eating.

Certain types of fiber can help reduce blood cholesterol, while fiber-rich foods such as whole grains, beans, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds form part of widely recommended cardiovascular eating patterns.

The difficulty is turning that advice into ordinary meals. A person may recognize that brown rice contains more fiber than white rice but still be unsure what to order from a workplace café, how to improve a rushed breakfast or how to use beans without cooking an elaborate meal.

This practical session helps participants find fiber across culturally familiar foods, packaged products, snacks and mixed dishes.

It also explains why increasing fiber too quickly may be uncomfortable for some people and why variety, gradual changes and suitable fluid intake often matter more than chasing one "high-fiber" product.

What your people take away

  • Understand how fiber-rich eating can support cholesterol and cardiovascular health
  • Recognize different fiber sources across familiar meals, snacks and cultural foods
  • Use whole grains, beans, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds more practically
  • Compare food labels without assuming every "high-fiber" product is automatically heart healthy
  • Increase fiber gradually in a way that fits everyday routines and digestive comfort
