About this session
Senior leaders are rarely evaluated only by what they intend.
They develop a reputation through the patterns other people repeatedly experience: how they make decisions, respond to challenge, use authority, communicate, delegate, build relationships, handle pressure, set priorities, and create the conditions around their teams.
The Hogan Leadership Forecast Series provides a structured way to examine those patterns.
It combines three of Hogan's core personality assessments: the Hogan Personality Inventory, which helps describe everyday or 'bright-side' leadership tendencies; the Hogan Development Survey, which identifies potential derailment patterns that can become more visible under strain or reduced self-monitoring; and the Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory, which explores the motives and values that influence priorities, leadership preferences, and the culture a leader may help create.
The value lies in integration rather than reading the three assessments separately. A day-to-day strength may protect against one challenge and amplify another.
A leader's values may explain why certain priorities receive disproportionate attention. A behavior that is highly effective in one stakeholder environment may become less useful when the leader moves into a larger role, greater ambiguity, or a different organizational culture.
That is why this experience focuses on strategic self-awareness rather than score collection. Leaders work with a Hogan-certified practitioner to understand the patterns that appear most relevant to their leadership context.
The conversation examines reputation, strengths, possible overuse, pressure behavior, motives, stakeholder impact, and the leadership environment the participant may create around them.
The experience is deliberately developmental. There is no single ideal Hogan profile for leadership.
Leaders do not need to 'fix' their personality or maximize every score. Instead, they identify where existing tendencies create value, where greater range or restraint may be useful, and what observable behavior could change the way a recurring leadership situation is handled.
Longer development options move from interpretation into evidence.
Participants test one to three leadership behaviors in situations such as executive communication, delegation, strategic decisions, conflict, stakeholder influence, change, senior-team leadership, or periods of pressure.
The result is a Leadership Edge: a clearer understanding of what the leader can leverage, what they need to manage, and how they can lead more deliberately without trying to become somebody else.
What your people take away
- Understand how the HPI, HDS, and MVPI contribute different but connected perspectives on leadership reputation, risk, motives, and culture
- Identify day-to-day leadership strengths and consider where the same tendencies may become overused or less effective in a different context
- Recognize pressure-related derailment risks and the situations in which those behaviors are most likely to become consequential
- Examine motives and values as influences on priorities, decisions, recognition, stakeholder relationships, and the culture a leader may create
- Integrate the three Hogan lenses rather than interpreting individual scores or reports in isolation
- Translate assessment insight into one to three observable leadership-development behaviors and a practical 90-day application plan

Interpret Hogan as a Development Profile — Not a Leadership Verdict
Every lengthPrinciples for reading results
- There is no single ideal Hogan profile for leadership.
- Higher and lower scores should not automatically be treated as better or worse.
- The assessments describe tendencies and potential reputation patterns rather than fixed behavior in every situation.
- The HPI, HDS, and MVPI provide different kinds of information and should not be interpreted as interchangeable measures.
- A day-to-day strength may become less useful when it is overplayed or used in the wrong context.
Turn Hogan Insight Into Your Leadership Edge
Half day only- Start With the Leadership ContextIdentify the recurring leadership situations that matter most.
- Integrate the Hogan PatternUse the HPI, HDS, and MVPI together to identify the strengths, possible overuse, pressure patterns, and values that may be relevant to the selected situation.
- Test the Interpretation Against ExperienceCompare the profile hypothesis with appropriate leadership examples and feedback.
- Define the Behavioral EdgeChoose a small number of observable actions: leverage a strength more intentionally, interrupt a pressure pattern earlier, broaden a leadership response, or deliberately account for a value that does not naturally receive as much attention.
- Apply, Observe, and RefineUse repeated leadership situations to test the new behavior.
Build Shared Leadership Awareness Without Turning Hogan Into a Team Scoreboard
