About this session

Food can influence how people feel across the day, but the relationship is more complex than simply eating 'good' foods and avoiding 'bad' ones.

Energy dips, long gaps between meals, dehydration, caffeine, comfort eating and individual tolerance can all shape mood and concentration in different ways.

This session helps participants notice their own food-and-mood patterns without using rigid rules or moral labels.

They explore how regular meals, balanced choices, hydration and caffeine timing may affect energy, irritability, focus and emotional steadiness, while recognizing that different bodies and working patterns require different approaches.

Participants then build practical habits for busy working days, shift patterns and high-pressure periods. The aim is not to prescribe a perfect diet or claim that food can treat mental-health conditions.

It is to help participants make more informed everyday choices that support steadier energy and a more predictable relationship between eating and how they feel.

What’s covered

Understand Your Food-and-Mood Pattern

Every length
  • Map when energy and mood changeParticipants identify when concentration, patience, energy or mood tend to change across the day and compare those moments with meals, snacks, hydration and caffeine.
  • Notice long gaps and irregular eatingParticipants identify where work routinely pushes meals or snacks later than intended and examine how they tend to feel and behave when they go too long without eating.
  • Separate hunger from other triggersParticipants practice noticing whether an urge to eat is connected to physical hunger, boredom, stress, fatigue, habit or simply the availability of food.
  • Use patterns, not one-off reactionsParticipants avoid blaming a single food for one difficult afternoon and instead look for repeated patterns across several days.

Build Steadier Energy

90 minutes and longer
  • Build a more balanced mealParticipants use a simple structure combining carbohydrate, protein, fiber-rich foods and fats where appropriate and compare how different combinations may affect fullness and energy.
  • Use snacks to support the dayParticipants identify whether snacks are helping bridge long gaps or simply appearing automatically during stress or boredom.
  • Pay attention to hydrationParticipants examine whether hydration is being forgotten during meetings, travel or focused work and create practical cues around existing routines.
  • Use caffeine deliberatelyParticipants identify when caffeine is being used for enjoyment, alertness or compensation for poor sleep and examine how timing and personal sensitivity affect them.

Work With Cravings, Comfort Eating and Stress

3 hours and longer
  • Notice what the craving is asking forParticipants pause before acting on a craving and identify whether they are seeking energy, comfort, stimulation, reward or relief from stress.
  • Remove the good-food / bad-food labelsParticipants examine how moral labels around food can create guilt, restriction and rebound eating.
  • Build more than one stress responseParticipants identify situations where eating has become the default response to pressure and add one or two alternatives such as movement, connection, quiet or stepping away.
  • Reset after an unplanned eating momentParticipants practice returning to normal eating after a period of overeating or an unplanned choice rather than compensating with restriction or skipping meals.

Create a Food Routine That Works in Real Life

Full day only
  • Plan around the days you actually haveParticipants identify how office days, remote work, commuting, shifts or travel change access to food and build simple plans around those realities.
  • Create backup optionsParticipants identify where busy days routinely derail eating plans and create a small set of backup meals, snacks or purchasing options that are easy to access.
  • Keep social eating in the pictureParticipants examine how workplace lunches, celebrations and shared meals fit into their wider eating pattern and avoid treating social food as something that needs to be 'made up for.' Flexibility and enjoyment remain part of a sustainable approach.
  • Know when specialist support is neededParticipants identify situations involving persistent digestive symptoms, significant food restriction, eating-disorder concerns, medical nutrition needs or major changes in appetite where individualized professional support may be appropriate rather than relying on general workplace nutrition advice.
