About this session
Uncertainty can place a particular kind of pressure on mental wellbeing because there is no clear endpoint to prepare for.
Organizational change, economic pressure, restructuring, world events or personal uncertainty can all create the feeling that something important may happen, but the information needed to understand it is not yet available.
This session helps participants understand how uncertainty affects thoughts, emotions and behavior.
They identify patterns such as repeated checking, catastrophizing, reassurance-seeking, difficulty concentrating or trying to plan for every possible outcome, and learn how those responses can create even more mental strain.
Participants then build practical ways to stay grounded: separating facts from forecasts, focusing on what can be influenced now, limiting unnecessary exposure to updates and creating routines that provide stability when circumstances are changing.
The final module focuses on support, recovery and knowing when uncertainty-related distress needs more than self-management.

What’s covered
Understand Your Uncertainty Pattern
Every length- Notice how uncertainty shows up for youParticipants identify whether uncertainty tends to create anxiety, irritability, distraction, low motivation or difficulty switching off.
- Map the thoughts that fill the gapsParticipants identify the predictions and stories that appear when information is missing, such as assuming the worst or trying to anticipate every possible outcome.
- Identify your uncertainty behaviorsParticipants map what they tend to do when they do not know what will happen, such as checking repeatedly, asking for reassurance, overplanning, withdrawing or avoiding decisions.
- Notice when uncertainty becomes the whole dayParticipants identify where one unresolved issue starts dominating concentration, conversations or personal time even when no new information is available.
Reduce Uncertainty-Driven Worry
90 minutes and longer- Separate facts from forecastsParticipants divide a current uncertainty into what is confirmed, what is likely, what is merely possible and what remains unknown.
- Decide whether more thinking will actually helpParticipants examine whether repeated thinking is producing a new decision or simply replaying the same possibilities.
- Reduce checking that only creates temporary reliefParticipants identify updates, inboxes, news or conversations they repeatedly check for certainty and build a more deliberate checking rhythm.
- Work with worst-case thinkingParticipants identify the feared outcome, assess what evidence currently supports it and consider what they would actually do if the situation occurred.
Build Stability in the Present
3 hours and longer- Focus on the next point of influenceParticipants identify what can genuinely be acted on now and choose one useful next step.
- Keep some routines steadyParticipants identify a few routines that provide continuity during uncertain periods, such as meals, movement, sleep opportunity, work shutdown or connection.
- Create a container for uncertaintyParticipants choose a specific time or place to review updates, think through concerns or make plans rather than allowing uncertainty to occupy every available moment.
- Keep life bigger than the uncertaintyParticipants identify relationships, activities and responsibilities that still matter even while something unresolved is happening.
Protect Wellbeing Over the Longer Term
Full day only- Build recovery into uncertain periodsParticipants identify what genuinely helps them recover from prolonged vigilance or worry and protect realistic opportunities for rest, movement, connection or lower-input time.
- Ask for the right kind of supportParticipants map who can provide factual information, workplace decisions, emotional perspective or professional support and distinguish these roles.
- Know when the workplace should reduce the uncertaintyParticipants identify ambiguity being created by inconsistent communication, unclear priorities, role confusion or avoidable delays and distinguish this from uncertainty that cannot yet be resolved.
- Know when more support is neededParticipants identify persistent anxiety, low mood, sleep disruption, panic, significant concentration problems or reduced everyday functioning that may justify professional or medical support.
