About this session
Mental fitness is not about never feeling stressed, distracted or emotionally affected. Like physical fitness, it is about developing capacities that can be practiced repeatedly so they are easier to access when work becomes demanding.
This session is designed as a practical mental gym. Participants move through short exercises that train attention, emotional recovery and cognitive flexibility rather than spending most of the session learning theory.
They practice bringing attention back when it wanders, resetting after pressure and deliberately looking at situations from more than one perspective.
The final module helps participants build their own mental fitness routine. They choose the exercises that are most useful for them, decide when to use them and create short versions for ordinary, busy and high-pressure days.
The aim is a realistic 5- to 15-minute practice that strengthens useful mental habits over time.

What’s covered
Train Your Attention
Every length- Practice single-point focusParticipants choose one neutral focus point, such as breathing, sound or a visual object, and practice keeping attention there briefly.
- Train the return, not perfect concentrationParticipants deliberately practice noticing when attention has drifted and bringing it back to the task.
- Use a short focus sprintParticipants choose one clear task objective and work on it for a short, protected period while capturing unrelated thoughts rather than following them.
- Practice attention switching on purposeParticipants deliberately move attention between two simple tasks or sensory targets and notice the transition.
Train Emotional Recovery
90 minutes and longer- Name the emotion quicklyParticipants practice identifying the emotion present after a difficult moment using one or two precise words.
- Use a 90-second resetParticipants practice a short reset using slower breathing, grounding, movement or quiet attention.
- Close the event before the next taskParticipants capture any action required from the difficult interaction and deliberately mark it as complete for now.
- Re-enter with one useful actionParticipants identify one practical next step after the reset, such as returning to the task, asking a question or taking a short break.
Train Cognitive Flexibility
3 hours and longer- Generate three possible explanationsParticipants take an ambiguous workplace situation and generate several plausible explanations rather than accepting the first interpretation automatically.
- Argue the other sideParticipants briefly build the strongest reasonable case for a different viewpoint or option.
- Change the frameParticipants practice viewing the same situation through different questions, such as 'What is the risk?', 'What is the opportunity?', 'What would make this easier?' or 'What information am I missing?' Each frame highlights different parts of the problem.
- Switch strategy when the first one is not workingParticipants identify a task or problem where they have been repeating the same approach and deliberately generate an alternative strategy.
Build Your Mental Gym Routine
Full day only- Choose the capacity you most need to trainParticipants identify whether attention, emotional recovery or cognitive flexibility currently needs the most practice and choose exercises accordingly.
- Build 5-, 10- and 15-minute versionsParticipants combine selected exercises into short routines for different levels of available time.
- Match exercises to real workplace momentsParticipants decide when specific drills are most useful, such as attention practice before focused work, emotional recovery after a difficult conversation or cognitive flexibility before a complex decision.
- Review and progress the practiceParticipants create a simple weekly check on which exercises they used, what felt easier and what still needs practice.
