What’s covered
Color sources
Selected plant / food by-product color sources
- Inspect confirmed plant materials or clean food by-products selected for dye extraction
- Compare raw source, extract and dyed reference samples
- Understand that not every food scrap or unknown plant becomes a useful dye
Staged extraction
Staged extraction
- See how color moves from source material into a prepared dye bath
- Compare early and developed extraction where staged samples are available
- Leave hot equipment and boiling vessels with the facilitator
Prepared textile swatches
Prepared textile swatches
- Work with provider-prepared, pre-scoured or pre-treated workshop swatches
- Focus on color, application and comparison rather than live mordant mixing
- Use one provider-selected suitable textile swatch type as standard
Dye-bath comparison
Dye-bath comparison
- Apply natural color through the confirmed hands-on method
- Compare how different prepared baths and sources change uptake
- Treat the work as color exploration rather than commercially uniform dyeing
Simple pattern / resist
Simple pattern / resist
- Use a simple fold, bind, clip or other facilitator-approved resist where selected
- Reveal the pattern after dyeing and rinsing
- Keep the sampler at beginner Lab level rather than advanced resist training
Color variation
Color variation
- Notice how source, fiber, preparation, concentration, time and drying change the result
- Compare wet samples with dry references
- Do not expect identical shades or guaranteed permanence
