About this session
Shift work can place sleep, alertness and recovery in conflict with the body's natural daily rhythms. Employees may need to sleep when the environment is bright and active, stay alert when the body expects rest, or repeatedly change between early, late and overnight schedules.
This session focuses on realistic strategies for working within those constraints. Participants build practical routines for preparing for shifts, protecting daytime sleep, using light and caffeine more deliberately, planning naps and recovering between changing schedules.
The session does not present one ideal routine for every shift worker.
Participants adapt the strategies to their own schedule, commute, home responsibilities and level of control, while learning to recognize when persistent sleepiness or difficulty recovering requires workplace or professional support.
