About this session

Muscle supports far more than appearance. It helps people lift, carry, climb stairs, maintain balance, protect joints, manage physical work and continue participating confidently in everyday life.

Muscle mass and strength can change with age, inactivity, illness, pregnancy, menopause and periods of reduced movement.

Age-related loss of muscle mass, strength and function is known as sarcopenia, but decline is not entirely inevitable and appropriately designed strength training can support function across later life.

This session helps participants understand what effective strength-building involves, move beyond myths about becoming "too bulky" and create a realistic plan using weights, machines, resistance bands or body weight.

It also covers protein, recovery, safe progression and when individualized guidance is important.
