About this session

A relocation package and a moving budget answer different questions. One describes the support offered; the other must show what the move will cost, who pays each item and when the money is needed.

A move can appear covered overall and still create a difficult gap before reimbursements or refunds arrive.

This session helps employees turn a work-related move into a practical cost, funding and payment plan.

Participants distinguish allowances, reimbursements, advances and employer-paid services; identify costs and money temporarily tied up; and test how delays or changes affect the plan.

They then follow expenses through submission, approval and payment rather than treating a submitted claim as settled.

The final stage separates outstanding relocation items from the ongoing cost of the new location, including the end of temporary support. Supplied cases support learning before, during or after a move.

Personal plans remain private, and the session does not decide whether someone should relocate or provide individual tax, legal, property or financial-product advice.

What your people take away

  • Translate relocation support into clear coverage, conditions, payment responsibilities and questions
  • Build a complete cost picture without confusing expenses, deposits and employer-paid services
  • Identify the cash needed at each stage, including gaps before money comes back
  • Track claims, advances and refunds through actual resolution
  • Create a private closeout and handover plan for the ongoing cost of the new location

What each length covers

30 minutes

30 Minutes — Key Points: Understand the Relocation Offer & Funding Terms

A focused 30-minute session on three key points from Understand the Relocation Offer & Funding Terms: distinguish the different forms of support, read coverage and approval conditions and identify tax, net-pay and repayment questions.

  • Distinguish the different forms of support
  • Read coverage and approval conditions
  • Identify tax, net-pay and repayment questions

Covers 3 of 4 points in Understand the Relocation Offer & Funding Terms.

60 minutes

60 Minutes — Understand the Relocation Offer & Funding Terms

Start with the support actually offered. Participants distinguish an allowance, reimbursement, advance and employer-paid service, identify coverage and approval conditions, and create a question list before assuming that a headline package value is available cash. This introductory pathway covers Module 1 rather than the complete relocation cash-flow process.

  • Module 1: Understand the Relocation Offer & Funding Terms
  • Relocation Support Map
  • Policy Conditions & Approval Checklist
  • Gross, Net & Repayment Questions Guide
  • Live Q&A

Covers 1 of 4 parts: Understand the Relocation Offer & Funding Terms.

90 minutes

90 Minutes — Clarify Support & Build the Move-Cost Picture

Combine Modules 1 and 2 to connect the relocation offer with a detailed cost inventory. Participants classify departure, moving, housing-overlap and setup costs; distinguish refundable deposits from spending; and identify who initially pays each item. The output is a cost-and-support map, with unresolved timing questions ready for the full workshop or program.

  • Module 1: Understand the Relocation Offer & Funding Terms
  • Module 2: Build the Complete Cost of the Move
  • Relocation Cost & Payer Ledger
  • Quote, Deposit & Double-Counting Check
  • Housing Overlap & Setup Cost Map
  • Live Q&A

Covers 2 of 4 parts: Understand the Relocation Offer & Funding Terms and Build the Complete Cost of the Move.

3 hours

Covers 3 of 4 parts: Understand the Relocation Offer & Funding Terms, Build the Complete Cost of the Move and Plan the Cash Needed Before Money Comes Back.

Full day

Full Day — Complete Relocation Finance Workshop

Work through all four modules using a supplied relocation case. Read the support terms, build the cost-and-payer record, place payments and expected funding on actual dates, test a delay, reconcile claims and advances, and identify what remains after temporary support ends. Participants leave with a private planning framework rather than a recommendation about accepting a move, borrowing or choosing housing.

  • Module 1: Understand the Relocation Offer & Funding Terms
  • Module 2: Build the Complete Cost of the Move
  • Module 3: Plan the Cash Needed Before Money Comes Back
  • Module 4: Close Outstanding Claims & Establish the New Cost Baseline
  • Relocation Support Map
  • Relocation Cost & Payer Ledger
  • Dated Relocation Cash-Flow Map
  • Delay & Change Scenario Planner
  • Claims, Advances & Refunds Tracker

Also available as a 4-week or 8-week program, for change that lasts. Ask us about it.

What’s covered

Understand the Relocation Offer & Funding Terms

Every length
  • Distinguish the different forms of supportParticipants separate a relocation allowance, reimbursement of eligible expenses, an advance to be accounted for and a service paid directly by the employer.
  • Read coverage and approval conditionsParticipants locate the current policy and offer documents, then check overall and category limits, covered people and costs, required approvals, service arrangements, evidence and deadlines.
  • Identify tax, net-pay and repayment questionsParticipants identify whether support is described as gross or net, whether tax assistance is expressly included and whether an advance or relocation payment has repayment conditions.
  • Build a support map with evidence and contactsParticipants record the support type, scope, initial payer, expected payment route, approval status and source of confirmation for each item.

Build the Complete Cost of the Move

90 minutes and longer
  • Map departure, moving and setup costsParticipants identify relevant departure charges, transport, moving services, storage, overlapping housing commitments, temporary accommodation and setup costs.
  • Compare cost details rather than headline quotesParticipants distinguish an estimate, booking confirmation and final invoice.
  • Separate spending from money temporarily tied upParticipants distinguish a potentially refundable security deposit from a fee and a booking deposit that forms part of a larger invoice.
  • Assign each cost and funding source onceParticipants use one cost-and-payer ledger to connect the full charge, initial payer, approved employer contribution and unresolved employee share.

Plan the Cash Needed Before Money Comes Back

3 hours and longer
  • Place payments and funding on actual datesParticipants map when employee payments fall due and when salary available for the move, allowances, advances, reimbursements or refunds are expected to arrive.
  • Find the largest temporary funding gapParticipants follow the running cash position across the move and identify the point requiring the most additional funding under the stated assumptions.
  • Test delays and changed costsParticipants test delayed reimbursement, an uncertain deposit return, a changed moving date or additional temporary housing.
  • Clarify the gap before making further commitmentsParticipants prepare questions about the payment route, timing, scope or support arrangements that may be available under the actual policy.

Close Outstanding Claims & Establish the New Cost Baseline

Full day only
  • Follow claims through actual paymentParticipants distinguish costs incurred and paid from claims submitted, queried, approved, partly paid or settled, using the employer's actual process.
  • Reconcile advances, credits and refundsParticipants match actual payments, reimbursements, supplier credits and deposit refunds to the original ledger.
  • Identify the costs that continue after support endsParticipants distinguish temporary accommodation, storage, setup and overlap costs from recurring expenses in the new location.
  • Close the plan without hiding open obligationsParticipants identify completed items and give each unresolved claim, deposit, repayment or tax question a contact and next review date.
