Summer heat duties and updated guidance

Takes effect December 2026 to February 2027By WorkblissUpdated October 19, 2026

What’s happening

Employers must eliminate or minimize heat risks as far as reasonably practicable. The ACT now has an approved Extreme Temperatures Code of Practice, which suggests considering a work stop above 37°C on construction sites and hourly shaded drink breaks between 35°C and 37°C. Safe Work Australia has also updated its heat guidance to match current first aid advice for heat stroke.

What to do

Before December, update heat plans, hydration and shade, rest-break rules and work-stop triggers for outdoor, warehouse and facilities staff.

How Workbliss can help

Workbliss can add onsite health and safety awareness sessions and campaigns for affected sites.
