Victorian election on November 28 decides the work-from-home bill
What’s happening
Victoria's Equal Opportunity Amendment (Work from Home) Bill 2026 would give many employees a right to work from home two days a week where reasonable, with employers responding to requests within 21 days and covering reasonable setup costs. The upper house sent it to a select committee on September 10, and the committee is due to report to the Legislative Council on October 20, 2026, but final passage now depends on the November 28 election. If it passes, the latest proposed start is July 1, 2027 for larger employers and January 1, 2028 for employers with fewer than 15 staff.
What to do
Draft a work-from-home request and equipment-cost process for Victorian staff now so you can move quickly if a returned government passes the bill.
