Provisional Measure 1,394/2026 banned online betting platforms from October 6, 2026; about 23 million bettors had money on them, and betting-related lawsuits in Rio de Janeiro courts rose from 58 in 2024 to 689 in 2026. Congress must still confirm the ban, so gambling-related debt and compulsive betting remain live issues.
