What’s happening

The adult minimum wage rose 45 cents to NZ$23.95 an hour on April 1, 2026, and the training and starting-out rates rose to NZ$19.16. The 2026 rate was announced on December 12, 2025, and the 2027 rate will be set by the government formed after the November 7 election.

What to do

Budget for an increase from April 1, 2027 and check pay rates for minimum-wage and near-minimum roles once the announcement is made.
