Colorado's rewritten AI law takes effect for employment decisions
What’s happening
SB 26-189, signed May 14, 2026, replaced Colorado's original AI Act with narrower rules. Employers whose automated decision-making tools materially influence hiring, promotion or pay decisions about Colorado residents must give notice, explain adverse decisions within 30 days, allow data correction and human review, and keep records for three years.
What to do
Identify AI tools used on Colorado applicants and employees and build notice, explanation and human-review steps into those processes.
