What’s happening
Mayor Mamdani's Executive Order 17 directs city agencies to develop heat protections for more than 1.4 million outdoor workers, including contractors and gig workers, with guidance due March 1, 2027. Federally, OSHA renewed its heat inspection program through 2031 but has not finalized a heat standard.
What to do
Review heat illness prevention plans, water, shade and rest practices, and training for outdoor and warehouse staff before summer 2027.
