About this session

As AI enters everyday work, managers face a challenge that cannot be solved by simply giving employees access to a tool. Some team members will experiment quickly.

Others will be cautious. Some will use AI well for appropriate tasks; others may produce more output while weakening quality.

Roles may begin to change before job descriptions, targets or management practices catch up.

Managers need a practical way to lead through that transition. Participants begin by looking at the work itself: where AI is already appearing, which tasks are changing, what quality still means and which responsibilities must remain clearly human.

They learn to set expectations around outcomes and standards rather than instructing employees to 'use more AI.'

The session then focuses on capability and coaching. Managers learn how to diagnose whether an employee needs stronger AI understanding, better task judgment, more effective review habits, additional domain knowledge or simply clearer expectations.

They explore how to coach AI-assisted work without becoming an AI technician or taking over every employee's workflow.

Finally, participants examine the wider people-management implications of AI-enabled work: changing responsibilities, workload, performance evidence, employee concerns, experimentation and team learning. The objective is not to force AI into every role.

It is to help managers lead teams that can use AI where it adds value while preserving quality, accountability and the human capabilities the work still requires.

  • Recognize when roles, responsibilities or workload need to change as AI alters parts of the work

What’s covered

Set the Standard for AI-Enabled Work

Every length
  • Start with the work — not AI activityParticipants identify where AI is already appearing in the team's work and what outcomes those tasks are meant to produce.
  • Define what good still looks likeAI may change how work is produced without changing the standard required.
  • Make ownership visibleParticipants clarify who remains responsible when AI drafts, summarizes, analyzes or recommends.
  • Set boundaries without blocking learningManagers need to know which experimentation is appropriate, which tools and information are approved and where additional review is required.

Build Capability Across the Team

90 minutes and longer
  • Expect different starting pointsEmployees will vary in AI familiarity, confidence, skepticism and practical skill.
  • Diagnose the real skill gapWeak AI-assisted work may result from poor AI understanding, inappropriate task selection, weak prompting, insufficient domain knowledge, poor verification or unclear expectations.
  • Create practice with real workCapability develops more effectively when employees work on appropriate tasks from their actual role.
  • Build peer learning without creating AI heroesTeams can learn quickly when employees share useful approaches, failures and lessons.

Coach Performance in AI-Assisted Work

3 hours and longer
  • Review the work — not just the toolWhen an AI-assisted output is weak, participants examine the task, instructions, source material, AI contribution, review process and final human judgment.
  • Coach the judgmentParticipants ask employees why they chose AI for the task, what they trusted, what they checked, what they changed and where they used their own expertise.
  • Watch for over-relianceAI can become a shortcut for thinking, writing or analysis that an employee still needs to understand.
  • Watch for avoidable under-useThe opposite pattern can also occur: employees may continue performing repetitive work manually when an approved AI-assisted approach could reduce unnecessary effort.

Lead the Team as the Work Changes

Full day only
  • Track how responsibilities are shiftingWhen AI reduces effort in one task, other responsibilities may become more important.
  • Watch the workload, not just the time savedFaster production can increase review volume, expectations or work throughput.
  • Address concerns with specificityEmployees may raise concerns about role security, quality, customer impact, learning, accountability or information handling.
  • Create a team learning rhythmParticipants build regular opportunities to review useful AI applications, weak experiments, emerging risks and changing skills rather than discussing AI only during rollout periods.
