About this session
AI can dramatically reduce the effort involved in reading, extracting, comparing and organizing large amounts of information. It can scan documents for recurring themes, build structured tables, compare sources and help researchers explore possible interpretations.
But speed does not remove the need for research discipline. If the question is poorly framed, the source set is weak or the AI loses important context, the resulting synthesis can become confidently incomplete.
Participants begin before the analysis. They learn to define the decision or question the research is meant to support, identify what evidence would genuinely help answer it and establish the boundaries of the source set.
This makes it easier to distinguish research from simply asking an AI assistant for an answer.
The session then develops practical analysis skills. Participants use AI to extract claims, evidence, themes, differences, limitations and unanswered questions from appropriate source material.
They learn to structure comparisons without allowing AI-generated categories to become invisible assumptions and to return to the source whenever an interpretation matters.
Finally, participants move from analysis into synthesis.
They combine evidence across sources, represent disagreement honestly, separate findings from inference and convert the strongest insight into decision-ready outputs such as evidence briefs, executive summaries or recommendation papers. The goal is not faster summarization.
It is faster sensemaking without losing the chain between evidence and conclusion.
What your people take away
- Frame research around a clear question, decision or evidence need before asking AI to analyze information
- Build an appropriate source set rather than treating an AI-generated answer as the research itself
- Use AI to extract, organize and compare evidence across documents and data-rich material
- Identify patterns, disagreements, limitations and gaps without flattening them into false consensus
- Distinguish source evidence from AI interpretation and human conclusion
- Turn complex research into clear, traceable and decision-ready insight

What’s covered
Start With the Question, Not the AI
Every length- Define the decision the research supportsParticipants identify what somebody needs to understand, decide, recommend or investigate before beginning the AI-assisted research process.
- Break the question into evidence needsA complex research question often contains several smaller questions.
- Set the scopeParticipants define relevant populations, geographies, time periods, source types, exclusions and other boundaries before synthesis begins.
- Make assumptions visibleResearch often begins with hypotheses or expectations.
Build & Analyze the Evidence Base
90 minutes and longer- Know what is in the source setParticipants create an explicit source set rather than assuming the AI has access to everything relevant.
- Extract what mattersParticipants use AI to identify claims, evidence, methods, dates, populations, findings, recommendations, limitations and other predefined fields across appropriate material.
- Compare like with likeParticipants build comparison structures across sources and identify where two pieces of evidence genuinely address the same question.
- Use AI-generated categories carefullyAI can help group comments, findings and observations into themes, but the categories themselves are interpretations.
Synthesize Without Losing the Evidence
3 hours and longer- Look for convergenceParticipants identify findings that recur across independent sources and examine whether they reinforce the same underlying conclusion.
- Keep disagreement visibleSources may disagree because of different methods, populations, assumptions or genuinely different findings.
- Separate finding from inferenceParticipants explicitly distinguish what a source states from what the combined evidence suggests and from what the researcher concludes.
- Identify what is still missingA strong synthesis should expose unanswered questions as well as findings.
Turn Research Into Decision-Ready Insight
Full day only- Answer the original questionResearch outputs often become long summaries that never return to the decision they were meant to support.
- Build the evidence chainParticipants connect each important insight back to the evidence supporting it and make major assumptions, limitations and uncertainty visible.
- Move from insight to recommendationWhere the research supports action, participants distinguish the finding from the recommendation that follows from it.
- Design the output for the decisionParticipants convert complex analysis into an appropriate output such as an evidence brief, executive summary, comparison table, research memo or recommendation paper.
