About this session
A customer can complete the purchase and still fail to achieve what they originally came for.
Implementation may stall, users may not adopt the solution, priorities may change, stakeholders may disengage or the customer may simply struggle to connect everyday activity with the outcome that justified the investment.
Customer Success exists to reduce that gap between purchase and meaningful value.
Participants begin by defining success from the customer's perspective. They distinguish implementation milestones, usage and activity from the business, operational or human outcome the customer is actually trying to achieve.
They then identify the earliest meaningful evidence that the relationship is creating value and design an onboarding path that gets customers there with as little unnecessary friction as possible.
The session then moves into the ongoing relationship. Participants learn how to create practical success plans, monitor adoption and engagement where relevant, maintain stakeholder alignment and identify early signs that value may be weakening.
Customer health is treated as a combination of evidence rather than a single score: customer outcomes, engagement, unresolved issues, stakeholder changes, usage or participation, sentiment and other relevant indicators may all contribute depending on the relationship.
Finally, participants connect Customer Success with retention and renewal readiness. They learn how to make value visible throughout the lifecycle, conduct useful success reviews, address risk early and build a credible continuation case before formal renewal conversations begin.
The objective is not to retain every customer at any cost. It is to create the conditions in which customers who continue to receive relevant value have clear reasons to continue the relationship.

What’s covered
Get the Customer to First Value
Every length- Define what success meansParticipants distinguish the customer's desired outcome from the activities used to get there.
- Identify first meaningful valueThe full customer outcome may take months, but customers usually need earlier evidence that progress is real.
- Remove onboarding frictionParticipants map the decisions, access, data, training, configuration, communication or internal coordination required before the customer can realize value.
- Align responsibilities earlyCustomer outcomes often depend on actions from both provider and customer.
Turn Customer Goals Into a Success Plan
90 minutes and longer- Connect goals to milestonesParticipants break longer-term customer outcomes into meaningful milestones that show whether progress is occurring.
- Define the evidence of valueDifferent relationships require different evidence.
- Build stakeholder alignmentThe people using a service may not be the same people evaluating its strategic value.
- Adapt as customer priorities changeA success plan should not become a static document created during onboarding and ignored for the rest of the relationship.
See Retention Risk Before It Becomes Churn
3 hours and longer- Build a complete view of customer healthParticipants examine outcomes, engagement, adoption, stakeholder strength, open issues, support patterns, sentiment and other appropriate signals rather than relying on one metric.
- Distinguish leading & lagging signalsCancellation is a lagging indicator: by the time it happens, the underlying problem may have existed for months.
- Diagnose the riskParticipants distinguish different causes of retention risk, including value gaps, product or service fit, implementation problems, support failures, relationship weakness, budget pressure, strategic change and competitive alternatives.
- Intervene early & appropriatelyParticipants select an intervention based on the actual risk.
Make Renewal the Outcome of Customer Value
Full day only- Make value visible throughout the yearCustomers should not first hear the value story when renewal is approaching.
- Run success reviews that matterParticipants move customer reviews beyond activity updates, ticket counts and presentation decks.
- Assess renewal readiness earlyParticipants identify whether the customer can articulate value, whether relevant stakeholders are engaged, whether significant issues remain unresolved and whether the relationship still supports current priorities.
- Let advocacy be earnedCustomers who have realized meaningful value may become references, advocates or contributors to peer learning, but advocacy should follow success rather than be treated as another lifecycle campaign.
