About this session
Cancer is not one condition, and no lifestyle can remove every risk. Age, genetics, health history, environmental exposure and chance can all play a role, while some everyday actions may reduce the likelihood of certain cancers.
In this practical session, participants explore evidence-based prevention across smoking, alcohol, movement, food, sun protection, vaccinations and workplace or environmental exposure.
The facilitator separates useful prevention guidance from fear-based claims, detoxes and promises that cancer can always be avoided.
Participants also examine the difference between screening and investigating symptoms.
Screening is intended for people without symptoms and may identify some cancers or precancerous changes earlier, while new or persistent symptoms require appropriate professional assessment rather than waiting for a routine screening invitation, as CDC guidance on cancer screening emphasizes.
This session provides general education about cancer prevention, screening and early action. It does not assess personal cancer risk, determine screening eligibility, diagnose symptoms, interpret test results or recommend genetic testing.
Screening guidance varies by country and individual circumstances. Participants should follow local guidance and seek individualized advice where they have symptoms, a strong family history, previous abnormal results or concerns about occupational exposure.
A new, persistent, worsening or unexplained bodily change should be raised with an appropriate healthcare professional rather than self-diagnosed or held until a future screening appointment.
