About this session

Debt repayment can feel slow when several balances, minimum payments, interest charges and due dates are all moving at once.

Making occasional extra payments can help, but acceleration becomes much more powerful when those payments are connected to a clear strategy and each cleared debt strengthens the next stage of the plan.

This session helps participants build that strategy. They bring existing debts into one payoff view, identify required payments and borrowing costs and distinguish debts suitable for ordinary acceleration from situations that may need priority treatment or specialist support.

They then compare different payoff approaches and calculate how the same amount of additional repayment can produce different experiences depending on where it is directed.

Participants also look for realistic ways to create additional payment capacity, plan how occasional extra money will be used and learn to roll freed-up payments forward as debts disappear.

They leave with a practical payoff roadmap designed to accelerate progress without sacrificing essential costs or relying on unrealistic financial 'hacks.'

What’s covered

Build Your Debt Payoff Map

Every length
  • Put every debt into one repayment viewParticipants bring balances, required payments, borrowing costs, due dates and other relevant terms into one clear map.
  • Separate acceleration from priority problemsParticipants identify accounts that are current and suitable for ordinary payoff acceleration and distinguish them from arrears or obligations where missed payments may carry more serious consequences.
  • See what the minimum-payment path looks likeParticipants use available account information or an appropriate repayment calculator to estimate what happens if they continue making only required payments.
  • Identify the money available for accelerationParticipants calculate what additional amount, if any, can be directed toward repayment after essential living costs and required obligations are protected.

Choose the Payoff Strategy That Fits

90 minutes and longer
  • Test the interest-first approachParticipants model an approach that directs additional payments toward the debt carrying the highest relevant borrowing cost while maintaining required payments elsewhere.
  • Test the balance-first approachParticipants model an approach that targets a smaller balance first and compare how quickly a complete account could disappear.
  • Build a hybrid when one method does not fitParticipants examine situations where a practical priority, expensive debt and smaller balance point in different directions.
  • Choose the strategy you can actually sustainParticipants compare the methods using cost, likely timeline, payment amount and the type of progress that helps them stay engaged.

Create & Direct Extra Payment Power

3 hours and longer
  • Find repayment capacity that can repeatParticipants identify recurring costs, completed commitments or other financial changes that could release money for repayment over several future periods.
  • Give occasional extra money a ruleParticipants decide in advance how refunds, bonuses, gifts, sales of unused items or other occasional money will be treated when such money genuinely becomes available.
  • Concentrate the extra payment on the current targetParticipants practice maintaining required payments across their obligations while directing the planned additional amount toward the chosen target.
  • Roll the cleared payment forwardParticipants calculate what happens when one balance reaches zero and its previous required payment joins the additional amount already attacking the next target.

Lock In Progress & Keep the Plan Moving

Full day only
  • Check how extra payments are actually appliedParticipants identify the questions to ask before assuming an overpayment works as expected.
  • Test refinancing or consolidation against total costParticipants compare an example restructuring offer with the current repayment path using interest, fees, term and required payment.
  • Build a setback rule before you need itParticipants decide what happens when an unexpected cost or tighter month makes the planned additional payment unrealistic.
  • Track milestones that show the plan is workingParticipants choose a small number of useful progress measures, such as a cleared account, reduction in total balance, reduction in borrowing cost or growth in rollover payment power.
