About this session

Technology is woven into almost every part of modern work and life, which makes a complete 'detox' neither realistic nor necessary for most people.

The more useful question is whether technology is being used deliberately or whether screens, notifications and constant digital input are beginning to shape the day automatically.

This session helps participants identify the parts of their digital routine that feel useful, neutral or draining.

They examine when checking becomes automatic, where screen use follows them into breaks and recovery time and which parts of the day would benefit from more space between one piece of digital input and the next.

Participants then test practical ways to reduce unnecessary digital stimulation, create screen-light moments and make technology easier to use on purpose.

The final module focuses on building a sustainable digital reset plan that can flex around busy periods without requiring people to disconnect from the tools they genuinely need.

What’s covered

Audit Your Digital Day

Every length
  • Map where technology fills the dayParticipants map when screens and devices appear from waking through the evening and distinguish work use, communication, entertainment, information and habit.
  • Identify automatic checking pointsParticipants identify moments when they reach for a device without a clear decision, such as waiting, finishing a task, feeling stressed or moving between activities.
  • Find your highest-load digital periodParticipants identify where the combination of screens, messages, meetings, apps or personal technology feels most draining across the day.
  • Separate useful technology from digital clutterParticipants distinguish tools that genuinely support work, connection or enjoyment from apps, alerts or routines that add little value.

Reduce Unnecessary Digital Noise

90 minutes and longer
  • Cut notifications that do not need you nowParticipants review alerts across email, messaging, apps and devices and identify which genuinely require immediate awareness.
  • Reduce app and tab switchingParticipants identify where multiple open apps, windows or tabs encourage repeated switching and create a simpler active workspace for selected tasks.
  • Make the phone less automaticParticipants test small changes such as moving distracting apps, removing unnecessary badges or placing the phone further away during selected periods.
  • Create clearer checking rhythmsParticipants identify digital channels that do not require continuous monitoring and create realistic checking patterns around their role.

Create Space Away From Screens

3 hours and longer
  • Make breaks different from workParticipants examine whether breaks simply replace one screen with another and identify screen-light alternatives such as walking, stretching, talking with someone, eating away from the desk or sitting without another stream of information.
  • Protect one screen-light transitionParticipants choose a transition such as waking, commuting, lunch, finishing work or preparing for sleep and reduce unnecessary digital input around it.
  • Reconnect with offline activitiesParticipants identify activities that have gradually been displaced by passive screen use, such as reading, hobbies, movement, conversation or time outdoors.
  • Use environment to support the choiceParticipants identify where device location, charging habits or screen availability make automatic use easier and test an environmental change.

Build a Sustainable Digital Reset

Full day only
  • Define what you want technology to doParticipants identify the roles they genuinely want technology to play in work, relationships, entertainment, information and convenience.
  • Create normal, busy and high-demand versionsParticipants build different versions of their digital plan for ordinary days, intense work periods and low-energy moments when screen use is more automatic.
  • Reset without starting a total detoxParticipants create a short recovery process for periods when digital use increases.
  • Know when the digital load is structuralParticipants identify where excessive digital demand comes from workplace systems such as duplicated channels, constant meetings, response expectations or after-hours communication.
