About this session
DISC provides a simple language for exploring observable behavioral tendencies commonly described through D, I, S, and C patterns.
Depending on the licensed assessment provider, terminology and profile detail may vary, but the practical question remains the same: how can greater awareness of behavioral preferences improve the way people work together?
Participants begin with self-awareness rather than trying to diagnose colleagues. They explore how their own preferences may influence pace, directness, enthusiasm, patience, detail, decision-making, listening, and response to pressure.
They then practice recognizing behavioral cues carefully and adapting communication without assuming that a person will behave consistently according to one category.
The session moves from understanding the framework into real workplace application: meetings, requests, feedback, difficult conversations, collaboration, and relationship-building.
Where a licensed DISC assessment is included, participants can apply the learning directly to their individual profile and development priorities.

What’s covered
Understand DISC & Your Own Communication Style
Every length- Understand the DISC frameworkParticipants explore the four broad DISC tendencies commonly associated with Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness, while recognizing that assessment providers may use slightly different language.
- Start with self-awarenessThe most useful place to apply DISC is to your own behavior.
- Notice strengths & overused strengthsA behavioral strength can become less effective when overused.
- Avoid putting people into boxesPeople adapt behavior according to role, culture, context, experience, pressure, and the people around them.
Recognize What Different People May Need
90 minutes and longer- Pace & decision styleSome people prefer faster movement toward decisions and outcomes, while others want more time to consider implications, relationships, or detail.
- Directness & relationshipOne person may value concise, task-focused communication while another responds better when time is given to rapport, context, and relational connection.
- Detail & information needsSome colleagues want the headline and destination first.
- Observe before you assumeBehavioral cues such as pace, questioning, brevity, detail, expressiveness, or preference for reflection can provide useful clues, but none proves a DISC profile.
Flex Your Communication
3 hours and longer- Adapt the message, not the truthCommunication flexibility does not mean saying different things to different people.
- Ask better questionsDifferent behavioral preferences can affect which questions help somebody engage.
- Listen outside your own styleA fast communicator can miss hesitation; a detail-focused communicator can miss the headline.
- Adapt without overdoing itBehavioral adaptation should make communication easier, not become a performance based on a stereotype.
Apply DISC to Real Working Relationships
Full day only- Improve feedback conversationsFeedback can land differently depending on expectations around directness, evidence, pace, relationship, and time to process.
- Navigate friction between stylesFast versus deliberate, expressive versus reserved, flexible versus structured, or headline versus detail preferences can create recurring irritation when each person assumes their approach is simply better.
- Strengthen team collaborationDifferent behavioral tendencies can contribute useful variety in pace, challenge, relationship awareness, stability, quality, and analysis.
- Build a flexibility planThe goal of DISC development is not to change someone's core identity.
