About this session
Emotional intelligence affects how people handle pressure, communicate, respond to feedback, navigate relationships and make decisions. It is not about being endlessly calm or agreeable.
It is about noticing what is happening emotionally, understanding how it may be influencing behavior and having more choice in what happens next.
This session introduces the core practical skills of emotional intelligence in a workplace context.
Participants learn how to recognize their own emotional patterns, understand how emotions can shape interpretation and behavior and become more accurate when reading other people's reactions.
They then practice listening, perspective-taking, regulation and clearer communication before bringing the skills together in everyday workplace situations.
The aim is to give participants a useful foundation they can apply across relationships, stress, feedback, conflict and personal development.

What’s covered
Build Emotional Self-Awareness
Every length- Name what you are actually feelingParticipants move beyond broad labels such as 'stressed' and identify whether they are frustrated, anxious, disappointed, embarrassed, excited or something else.
- Notice your triggersParticipants identify situations that reliably produce a strong reaction, such as feedback, uncertainty, conflict, interruption or feeling ignored.
- See how emotion shapes behaviorParticipants examine how different emotional states affect tone, decisions, attention and communication.
- Separate emotion from identityParticipants practice describing an emotional experience without turning it into a fixed conclusion about themselves, such as moving from 'I'm anxious about this' to 'I'm not confident.' This keeps the experience specific and easier to work with.
Understand Other People More Accurately
90 minutes and longer- Listen for the issue, emotion and needParticipants practice listening for more than the literal words by identifying the practical issue, emotional tone and expectation underneath the message.
- Use perspective without mind-readingParticipants consider what pressures, information or priorities may be shaping another person's perspective while keeping those explanations tentative.
- Separate observation from interpretationParticipants distinguish observable behavior from conclusions such as 'they are rude,' 'they do not care' or 'they are disengaged.' They identify what additional information would be needed before treating the interpretation as fact.
- Ask questions that reduce assumptionParticipants practice questions that clarify what matters, what happened and what the other person needs next.
Manage Your Response
3 hours and longer- Create a pause before reactingParticipants practice short ways to create space when emotion is rising, such as slowing down, taking a breath, delaying a non-urgent reply or asking for a moment to think.
- Choose a regulation tool that fitsParticipants compare practical regulation options such as slower breathing, movement, grounding, quiet or changing environment and choose what works in different settings.
- Ask what outcome you wantParticipants identify the result they want before responding, such as clarity, trust, progress or fairness.
- Match the response to the real problemParticipants distinguish situations that need a conversation, a boundary, more information, recovery or direct action.
Use EQ in Everyday Work
Full day only- Communicate the issue clearlyParticipants practice describing what happened, its impact and what they need next without unnecessary accusation or emotional escalation.
- Work with intention and impactParticipants examine situations where someone intended one thing but the impact was different.
- Use feedback as informationParticipants practice separating the emotional reaction to feedback from the useful information inside it.
- Build a simple EQ practiceParticipants create a short weekly review covering one emotional trigger, one important interaction and one response they want to improve.
