About this session
A financial app can look like a bank while legally being an electronic money institution. A 'cash' balance can be a bank deposit, safeguarded e-money, or another financial product.
An investment feature can be provided by a different company from the payment account. A multi-currency app can advertise fee-free exchange while costs appear through spreads, premium tiers, limits, ATM charges, or another part of the pricing structure.
This session gives employees a practical way to decode that complexity.
Participants begin by separating the app's brand from the legal entity providing each service and learn to distinguish banks, payment institutions, e-money institutions, open-banking providers, and investment platforms.
They then explore SEPA, IBANs, instant euro payments, beneficiary verification, multi-currency features, account aggregation, and payment initiation.
The later modules focus on protection and value.
Participants learn the difference between deposit guarantee, safeguarding and investment risk; review app fees, savings and investment features, rewards and premium tiers; examine data permissions and provider support; and finish with a European Money App Stack Review showing what each app does, what it costs, what data it can access, which protection applies, and how the account can be exited cleanly.

What’s covered
Decode What Your Financial App Actually Is
Every length- Look past the brand & find the legal providerParticipants learn that terms such as digital bank, neobank, wallet, money app and super app are consumer labels rather than regulatory categories.
- Distinguish banks, payment institutions & e-money institutionsParticipants compare credit institutions, payment institutions and electronic money institutions at a practical level and learn why a bank deposit, payment balance and e-money balance should not automatically be treated as the same financial product.
- Match each balance with the protection that actually appliesParticipants distinguish deposit-guarantee concepts, safeguarding and investment-asset protection and learn why regulation does not guarantee investment performance.
- Verify the provider through official sourcesParticipants learn how to identify the legal entity name and use national competent authority, EBA, securities-regulator and other official registers where relevant.
Understand European Payments, Transfers & Multi-Currency Features
90 minutes and longer- Understand SEPA, IBAN & the European payment routeParticipants learn how IBAN-based euro transfers operate within the wider SEPA environment and why SEPA, the European Union and the eurozone are related but different concepts.
- Distinguish standard & instant paymentsParticipants compare standard and instant euro transfers through speed, availability, fees and recipient eligibility and learn how beneficiary verification can provide an additional check before money is sent.
- Compare multi-currency costs beyond the headline FX rateParticipants identify the provider exchange rate, spread or markup, explicit fee, premium-plan allowance, transfer fee, card charge, ATM cost and other conditions that can affect the final amount paid or received.
- Understand card FX, ATM fees & dynamic currency conversionParticipants learn why a card payment, ATM withdrawal and bank transfer can use different conversion routes and why choosing to see a familiar home-currency amount does not automatically mean the conversion is cheaper.
Evaluate Protection, Fees, Savings & Investment Features
3 hours and longer- Find out what a 'savings' or 'cash' feature actually holdsParticipants trace savings, interest, cash and yield features back to their underlying product and legal provider.
- Distinguish an investment app from the investments inside itParticipants identify the legal investment provider, custody or asset-holding structure, service type, fees and investor-protection questions before looking at the products available inside the app.
- Compare premium tiers, rewards & 'free' features through total costParticipants compare subscription fees, FX allowances, cashback, travel perks, insurance bundles, withdrawal limits, higher interest offers and referral rewards against the features an example user actually needs.
- Keep crypto & borrowing features in their own risk categoriesParticipants learn that crypto services, overdrafts, installment credit and other borrowing features inside a financial app are separate financial products with different risks and protections.
Build a Safer, Simpler European Money App Stack
Full day only- Review open-banking connections & financial data permissionsParticipants identify which financial apps can access account information or initiate payments, what data is being shared and whether the connection is still useful.
- Check support, complaints & what happens if access is restrictedParticipants compare customer-support channels, language availability, urgent card or account support, complaints pathways and account-review processes.
- Identify duplicate apps, fees & concentration riskParticipants map the financial job performed by each app and identify duplicated subscriptions, overlapping services, stale accounts, fragmented balances and overdependence on one provider.
- Close an account properly — do not just delete the appParticipants learn to check remaining balances or investments, recurring payments, open-banking permissions, statements, tax records, pending transactions and formal closure steps before removing a financial app from a device.
