About this session
GLP-1 is one of several hormones released after eating that help the body coordinate digestion, blood-glucose regulation and appetite.
It contributes to glucose-dependent insulin release, influences other signals involved in glucose control, slows stomach emptying to varying degrees and communicates with appetite-related pathways in the brain.
It is important biology, but it is not a single master switch for hunger, body weight or metabolic health.
Prescription medicines that activate the GLP-1 receptor use this pathway for longer than the body’s naturally released hormone.
Some newer medicines discussed alongside GLP-1 treatments act on more than one incretin receptor, so not every product in the public conversation works in exactly the same way.
Depending on the medicine, jurisdiction and individual clinical situation, approved uses can include type 2 diabetes, chronic weight management and selected other health indications.
The attention around these medicines has created a second problem: treatment information is now mixed with celebrity stories, dramatic before-and-after images, online prescribing, compounded or otherwise non-standard products, supplement claims and the idea that certain foods can act as a ‘natural GLP-1 drug.’ GLP-1, Decoded gives participants a more reliable framework for separating the biology, the prescription medicine, the treatment experience and the marketing around them.
The longer formats move from understanding into practical health literacy.
Participants learn how to prepare better questions for a prescriber, recognize common side effects and safety boundaries, support adequate food and fluid intake when appetite changes, protect muscle and physical capability during weight change, navigate work and travel discreetly and evaluate new GLP-1 claims without diagnosing themselves or changing treatment independently.
The goal is informed participation, not medication promotion or medication avoidance.
What your people take away
- Understand what natural GLP-1 does within the wider gut–brain–pancreas system
- Distinguish the body’s GLP-1 hormone from medicines that activate the GLP-1 pathway for longer
- Recognize that some newer incretin medicines act on more than one receptor and should not all be treated as identical
- Understand why different medicines may be prescribed and why benefits differ between people
- Recognize common treatment effects and know which symptoms should move beyond self-management
- Understand why dosing, missed doses, treatment changes and medication combinations require product-specific clinical guidance
- Build practical food, hydration, movement and strength habits without claiming lifestyle can reproduce a prescription medicine
- Evaluate ‘natural GLP-1,’ supplement, online-prescribing and product-source claims more critically

What’s covered
Understand GLP-1 Biology Without Turning One Hormone Into the Whole Story
Every length- Follow the signal after foodAfter nutrients reach the digestive system, a network of hormones and nerve signals helps coordinate what happens next.
- Understand its role in glucose regulationNatural GLP-1 can support insulin release when glucose is elevated after eating and influence other signals involved in glucose control.
- Connect GLP-1 with fullness & digestionGLP-1 contributes to appetite signaling and can influence how quickly the stomach empties.
- Challenge the ‘natural GLP-1 drug’ shortcutFood and normal digestion can influence the body’s own incretin responses, but no ordinary food, tea, powder or supplement should be presented as equivalent to a prescription GLP-1-based medicine.
Understand the Medicines, Benefits & Treatment Differences
90 minutes and longer- Distinguish natural GLP-1 from prescription medicinesThe body’s own GLP-1 is broken down quickly, while GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines are designed to stimulate the receptor for much longer.
- Understand why they may be prescribedDepending on the specific product, regulatory approval and individual clinical situation, incretin-based medicines may be used for type 2 diabetes, chronic weight management or selected other approved indications.
- Interpret benefits without turning averages into guaranteesDepending on the medicine and population studied, benefits may include improved glucose control, reduced appetite, clinically meaningful weight loss and improvements in selected cardiovascular or other health outcomes.
- Understand that treatment is more than the active ingredientDosing schedules, delivery method, approved indication, prescribing guidance, product quality, access and monitoring differ between treatments.
Understand Side Effects, Safety & the Real Treatment Experience
3 hours and longer- Expect gastrointestinal effects to be part of the conversationNausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal discomfort and pronounced fullness are among the effects commonly discussed with GLP-1-based medicines.
- Follow product-specific dosing & missed-dose guidanceMany medicines in this area use gradual dose escalation, but the schedule differs by product and individual.
- Understand safety in the context of the whole medication listThe risk of low blood glucose depends partly on the full treatment regimen and can be more relevant for people using certain other glucose-lowering medicines.
- Know when symptoms need prompt or urgent helpSevere or persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting with dehydration, severe allergic symptoms or another significant deterioration should not be managed through social-media advice or workplace wellness tips.
Support Nutrition, Physical Capability & Informed Long-Term Decisions
Full day only- Protect nutrition when appetite changesReduced appetite can make it easier for some people to eat less than they previously did, but lower intake can also make adequate protein, fiber, micronutrients and overall nourishment more difficult.
- Support hydration & digestive comfort without self-treating side effectsParticipants review practical hydration and food-pattern considerations because vomiting, diarrhea, constipation or reduced intake can affect fluid balance and comfort.
- Keep muscle & physical capability in the pictureWeight loss can include loss of lean tissue as well as fat mass.
- Build a long-term information & support planParticipants examine what they would want to clarify if treatment is working differently than expected, access changes, side effects continue, weight changes substantially or treatment may be stopped or switched.
