About this session
The time between shifts is meant to support recovery, but it can quickly disappear into commuting, meals, household responsibilities, caring, errands and attempts to unwind.
When recovery windows are short or poorly protected, fatigue can carry into the next shift and gradually become harder to reverse.
This session helps participants make better use of the time they actually have. They build realistic routines for leaving work, traveling home, eating, winding down, sleeping and preparing for the next shift without expecting every recovery period to be perfect.
Participants also explore how to respond after particularly demanding shifts, when naps may help, how to avoid extending stimulation too close to sleep and when repeated poor recovery reflects a wider schedule, workload or health concern rather than a personal failure to manage time.
What your people take away

- Protect sleep opportunity without creating an elaborate or unrealistic schedule
- Use food, hydration, light, movement, naps and caffeine more deliberately
- Adapt recovery strategies for quick turnarounds and changing shift patterns
- Recognize when insufficient recovery requires workplace or professional support
