About this session
The thyroid is a small gland in the neck that produces hormones used throughout the body. These hormones help regulate how the body uses energy and influence temperature, heart function, digestion, muscles, concentration and many other everyday processes.
Thyroid conditions are particularly common in women, and symptoms can overlap with stress, anemia, depression, pregnancy, perimenopause and other health concerns.
An underactive thyroid may be associated with fatigue, feeling cold, weight change, constipation, dry skin, low mood or heavy or irregular periods.
An overactive thyroid may cause heat intolerance, palpitations, anxiety, tremor, weight loss, sleep problems or lighter and less frequent periods.
Symptoms alone cannot confirm which condition is present, so assessment usually includes thyroid-function blood tests, as NHS guidance on overactive and underactive thyroid symptoms notes.
This session helps participants identify meaningful patterns, understand common tests and manage thyroid health around working life.
It also covers medication routines, pregnancy and postpartum considerations, and the importance of reviewing symptoms rather than changing treatment or taking iodine-based supplements independently.
