About this session
Anger is a normal emotion, but the way it is expressed can have a major impact on relationships, communication, decision-making and workplace culture.
For some men, anger may also become the most visible emotion when stress, frustration, disappointment, embarrassment or fear sit underneath it.
Reactive behavior can happen quickly. A raised voice, abrupt message, withdrawal, sarcasm or confrontation may feel automatic in the moment, especially when someone feels disrespected, ignored, overloaded or out of control.
This session explores anger as something to understand and regulate rather than suppress. Attendees examine their own triggers, the physical and mental signs that appear before a reaction, and practical ways to create enough space to choose a more effective response.

What’s covered
Understand Your Anger Pattern
Every length- What anger is trying to signalThe session begins by exploring anger as an emotional response to experiences such as frustration, threat, unfairness, loss of control or blocked expectations.
- What may sit underneath angerAttention turns to emotions that can be harder to recognize in the moment, including disappointment, fear, embarrassment, hurt or insecurity.
- Identify your triggersThe group examines common triggers such as criticism, feeling ignored, being challenged, delays, disrespect, workload or loss of control.
- Notice the early warning signsPhysical tension, faster speech, racing thoughts, heat, restlessness, jaw clenching or an urge to interrupt are explored as possible signs that anger is building.
Slow Down the Reaction
90 minutes and longer- What happens in the momentThis section explores how emotional arousal can narrow attention, speed up thinking and make impulsive responses feel justified.
- Create a pauseThe session works through practical ways to interrupt an automatic reaction, including slowing the conversation, taking a brief break or delaying a written response.
- Question the first interpretationAttendees examine how assumptions such as "they are disrespecting me" or "they are doing this deliberately" can intensify anger very quickly.
- Regulate the physical responseBreathing, movement, grounding and reducing immediate stimulation are considered as ways to lower physiological arousal.
Communicate Anger Without Escalating Conflict
3 hours and longer- Move from accusation to assertivenessThe session explores the difference between expressing a concern clearly and attacking the other person.
- Handle disagreement without needing to winAttention turns to what happens when conflict becomes focused on proving who is right.
- Listen while you are still frustratedThe group examines why listening becomes harder when someone feels defensive or angry.
- Know when to step away and returnSome conversations are more productive after a short pause rather than being forced through at peak frustration.
Change Recurring Patterns
Full day only- Look at what happens after the reactionThe final module examines the consequences of recurring anger across relationships, trust, teamwork and reputation.
- Repair when a reaction has crossed the lineThe session explores accountability after shouting, sending an aggressive message, withdrawing or responding in a way that caused harm.
- Reduce the pressure that fuels angerSleep, workload, chronic stress, alcohol, unresolved conflict and lack of recovery are considered as factors that can lower tolerance and increase reactivity.
- Create a personal response planThe session closes by bringing together triggers, warning signs, regulation and communication into a practical plan.
