About this session
When teams are working through heavy workloads, reduced capacity, uncertainty, organizational change, demanding relationships, or sustained pressure, resilience is rarely explained by personal toughness alone.
Using the Job Demands–Resources model as a central framework, participants examine the balance between what their work requires and the resources available to meet those demands.
They explore psychological capital, psychological hardiness, job crafting, recovery, support, and practical ways to strengthen resources without pretending that every workplace problem can be solved by individual mindset.
Participants leave able to distinguish pressures they can address personally from structural issues that require a wider conversation, make targeted adjustments to the way they work, and build a practical plan for maintaining capacity during demanding periods.

What’s covered
Understand the Demands–Resources Balance
Every length- Use the jd-r modelThe Job Demands–Resources model helps explain why the same workplace can produce exhaustion in one set of conditions and engagement in another.
- Identify the demands consuming capacityNot all pressure looks the same.
- Map the resources availableResources can include autonomy, manager support, role clarity, useful feedback, skills, supportive colleagues, equipment, staffing, development opportunities, flexibility, recovery time, and access to information.
- Distinguish exhaustion from engagementHigh demands do not always lead to poor outcomes when people have meaningful resources, influence, support, and opportunities for recovery.
Strengthen Personal Resilience Resources
90 minutes and longer- Build psychological capitalPsychological Capital brings together four developable resources: hope, efficacy, resilience, and optimism.
- Use hope as pathways + agencyHope involves both believing movement is possible and being able to generate routes toward the goal when the original route is blocked.
- Develop control, commitment & challengePsychological hardiness emphasizes three useful attitudes.
- Separate control from acceptanceSome workplace problems can be changed directly, some can be influenced, and others may need to be acknowledged while attention moves toward the response that remains available.
Reshape the Work Where You Can
3 hours and longer- Use task craftingJob crafting allows people to make small intentional changes to how work is organized or approached within the boundaries of their role.
- Use relational craftingWorking relationships can become significant sources of either resource or depletion.
- Use cognitive craftingHow people understand the purpose and significance of their work can influence motivation and persistence, particularly when some tasks feel repetitive or difficult.
- Know when crafting is not enoughJob crafting cannot compensate indefinitely for excessive workload, inadequate staffing, unsafe conditions, chronic role ambiguity, damaging management behavior, or other structural problems.
Recover, Adapt & Sustain Resilience
Full day only- Recovery restores capacityResilience cannot be maintained through continuous expenditure of effort.
- Build micro-recovery into workRecovery is not limited to holidays or weekends.
