About this session
Detox language is everywhere: juice cleanses, herbal teas, powders, supplement packs, fasting plans, sweat-based detoxes and foods marketed as helping the body flush out toxins.
The language can sound scientific while remaining remarkably vague about what substance is being removed, which organ is involved or how the claimed effect has been measured.
The body already has sophisticated systems for processing substances and eliminating waste. The liver chemically transforms many compounds and helps prepare them for use or elimination.
The kidneys filter the blood and regulate fluid, electrolytes and the excretion of many water-soluble wastes. The digestive tract eliminates unabsorbed material and substances delivered into the gut, while the lungs remove carbon dioxide.
Sweat can contain small amounts of some substances, but the skin is not a substitute for liver or kidney function and sweating more does not provide a general-purpose detox.
Detox 101 turns this physiology into practical health literacy.
Participants learn how to ask better questions about cleanse claims, distinguish temporary effects such as water loss or increased bowel movements from evidence that harmful substances have been removed, and recognize why natural does not automatically mean effective or safe.
The longer formats move from understanding into application.
Participants map hydration, fiber, meals, alcohol, sleep, movement and supplement use across real working weeks; test a structured Detox Claim Check; identify when a return to normal routines is more appropriate than a punitive reset; and build a sustainable Body Support Plan for travel, celebrations, disrupted sleep and other periods when routines change.
The goal is not to help people detox harder. It is to make them harder to mislead and more confident supporting the systems their body already has.

What’s covered
Understand What Detoxification Actually Means
Every length- Start with the substance — not the marketing wordDetoxification has a real biological meaning, but useful discussion begins by naming the substance or metabolic product being processed.
- Understand what the liver doesThe liver performs many functions, including processing nutrients, alcohol, medicines and other compounds.
- Understand what the kidneys doThe kidneys continuously filter blood, regulate fluid and electrolyte balance and excrete many waste products through urine.
- Put the gut, lungs & skin in the right contextThe digestive tract eliminates unabsorbed material and substances delivered into the gut, while the lungs continuously remove carbon dioxide produced by metabolism.
Become Harder to Sell a Detox To
90 minutes and longer- Use the Detox Claim CheckParticipants learn a repeatable sequence: What substance is being removed?
- Distinguish an effect from the claimed effectA product may increase urination, stimulate bowel movements, reduce food intake or produce temporary changes in body weight.
- Do not equate natural with safeHerbs, concentrated extracts and supplements can have biological effects.
- Notice the sales patternDetox marketing often creates a problem before selling the solution.
Support Normal Body Function Without a Cleanse
3 hours and longer- Use hydration to support normal physiologyParticipants map when drinking fits naturally into their working day and where meetings, travel, heat, physical work or limited access create gaps.
- Support digestive regularity with food, fluid & routineFiber-containing foods such as vegetables, fruit, beans, lentils, whole grains, nuts and seeds can support normal bowel function as part of an overall eating pattern.
- Return to regular meals instead of compensatingTravel, celebrations, disrupted sleep and busy periods can produce irregular eating that leaves people wanting a dramatic reset.
- Include sleep, movement & alcohol without calling them detox toolsSleep and regular movement support general health and recovery, while alcohol choices can influence sleep, hydration and how people feel the following day.
Know When Detox Language Crosses Into Health Risk
Full day only- Distinguish commercial detox from medical detoxificationIn medicine, detoxification may refer to specific treatment for toxic exposure or medically supervised management of withdrawal from alcohol or other substances.
- Recognize when fasting or restriction needs more cautionProlonged fasting or severe restriction can be unsuitable for some people and may be especially concerning during pregnancy, with certain health conditions, when taking relevant medicines or where eating-disorder risk is present.
- Take product reactions seriouslyA detox tea, supplement or concentrated product can produce unwanted effects such as marked diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, palpitations, allergic symptoms or other reactions.
- Know when everyday wellbeing advice is not enoughPersistent or concerning changes such as jaundice, unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, significant abdominal pain, blood in vomit or stool, major changes in urine, persistent bowel changes, swelling or another substantial change require appropriate professional assessment rather than a commercial detox.
