About this session

Financial protection is not about trying to insure every inconvenience.

It is about understanding which events could create a serious financial loss, reducing those risks where possible and deciding which exposures can reasonably be absorbed and which may need to be transferred through insurance or another protection arrangement.

This session gives participants a practical way to think about protection before they think about products.

They identify risks connected with income, health, dependants, property, liability, travel and longer-term care and examine how the financial impact of those risks can differ.

They then learn the mechanics that sit behind insurance — premiums, deductibles or excesses, limits, exclusions, waiting periods, claim triggers, beneficiaries and renewal terms — so a policy can be understood as a contract rather than simply a reassuring label.

The final stage helps participants connect protection categories into one household system. They distinguish workplace and personal cover, identify possible overlap or gaps, examine what information a claim may require and create review triggers for major life changes.

Participants leave with a Personal Protection Map showing what they already rely on, what they need to understand better and which questions require further research or appropriately qualified advice.
