About this session

Workforces now often include employees at very different life stages, with different responsibilities, health priorities, working preferences and expectations of support.

Those differences can affect how people experience stress, recovery, flexibility, caregiving, career pressure and wellbeing benefits.

This session helps participants think about multi-generational wellbeing without reducing people to labels such as Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X or Baby Boomers.

Instead, participants examine the real factors that shape wellbeing needs, including life stage, role, health, caring responsibilities, financial pressure, career stage and working pattern.

Participants then learn how to design and communicate wellbeing support that offers meaningful choice without creating a separate program for every age group.

The final module focuses on building a practical wellbeing approach that supports inclusion, avoids stereotypes and remains adaptable as workforce needs change over time.

What’s covered

Understand the Real Differences

Every length
  • Look beyond generational labelsParticipants examine common assumptions attached to labels such as Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X and Baby Boomers and identify where those labels may hide more important differences in life stage, role, health or personal circumstances.
  • Map life-stage factorsParticipants identify factors such as early career pressure, parenting, caregiving, health changes, retirement planning or changing financial responsibilities that may shape wellbeing needs more directly than age alone.
  • Notice role and working-pattern differencesParticipants examine how shift work, frontline roles, remote work, seniority, physical demands or location can affect wellbeing access and stress.
  • Treat individual variation as normalParticipants recognize that two employees of the same age may have completely different priorities and circumstances.

Identify Different Wellbeing Priorities

90 minutes and longer
  • Map where stressors may differParticipants examine how workload, job security, financial pressure, caregiving, career progression or health may create different stress patterns across the workforce.
  • Notice different recovery needsParticipants consider how recovery may be affected by shift schedules, caring responsibilities, commuting, health needs or digital work and identify where one wellbeing format may be easier for some employees to access than others.
  • Review financial and life-stage pressuresParticipants identify how financial wellbeing priorities may range from debt and housing through family responsibilities to retirement planning.
  • Identify where support is currently unevenParticipants review which parts of the workforce currently engage with wellbeing programs and which may have less relevant or less accessible support.

Design Support With More Choice

3 hours and longer
  • Design around needs, not age groupsParticipants identify the wellbeing outcome they want to support, such as sleep, financial wellbeing, stress or connection, and create options based on need rather than assigning programs to people because of their age.
  • Offer flexibility in how people participateParticipants build choice around timing, virtual or onsite access, duration and participation style so employees with different schedules and responsibilities have a more realistic opportunity to engage.
  • Create multiple routes to the same outcomeParticipants explore how one wellbeing goal can be supported through different formats, such as live learning, self-directed resources, activities or practical support.
  • Keep the offer simple enough to useParticipants identify when too much choice creates confusion and practice organizing wellbeing support around clear needs and pathways.

Build an Inclusive Wellbeing Approach

Full day only
  • Use communication that does not stereotypeParticipants review wellbeing messaging for phrases that assume what younger or older employees value and replace them with language focused on needs, benefits and choice.
  • Involve employees without making them represent a generationParticipants identify ways to gather employee input through feedback, focus groups or surveys without expecting one person to speak for everyone of a similar age.
  • Review participation for real access gapsParticipants examine aggregated participation patterns across locations, shifts, roles or other relevant workforce groups and identify where access appears uneven.
  • Keep the program adaptableParticipants create a simple review process for checking whether workforce needs, participation and available support have changed.
