About this session
Working well with an AI assistant involves more than finding a clever sentence to type into a prompt box.
The quality of the interaction depends on whether the task is clear, whether the assistant has the information it needs, whether important constraints and quality expectations have been made explicit and whether the person using the tool knows how to assess and improve the result.
Participants learn to begin by framing the work. They define the objective, audience, relevant context, available source material, boundaries and the form the output needs to take.
They then build prompts that give the assistant enough direction without burying the task underneath unnecessary instructions.
The session also moves beyond one-shot prompting.
Participants learn to treat interaction with an AI assistant as an iterative working process: request a first version, inspect what is missing, ask clarifying questions, compare alternatives, challenge assumptions, refine selected sections and provide additional context when the first response reveals gaps.
Finally, participants learn to evaluate the output rather than assuming that fluent language means good work.
They define quality criteria, verify consequential information, identify where human judgment remains necessary and turn successful interactions into reusable prompt patterns and working practices.
What your people take away
- Frame the work clearly before asking an AI assistant to perform it
- Provide relevant context, inputs, constraints and output requirements
- Use examples and quality criteria to improve alignment
- Develop results through iteration rather than searching for one perfect prompt
- Review AI output for accuracy, usefulness, completeness and fit for purpose
- Turn successful prompts into reusable patterns without removing human judgment

What’s covered
Frame the Task Before You Prompt
Every length- Start with the job to be doneA vague task usually produces a vague or generic response.
- Identify the audience & useThe same information may need to be explained very differently to an executive, customer, employee, technical specialist or new starter.
- Gather the context that mattersAI assistants cannot reliably infer workplace context that has never been provided.
- Set safe information boundariesParticipants use employer-approved AI tools and follow applicable workplace rules for confidential, personal, proprietary or restricted information.
Build Clearer Prompts & Better Instructions
90 minutes and longer- Make the task explicitParticipants write direct instructions describing what the assistant should produce, analyze, transform, compare, extract or help develop.
- Add useful constraintsConstraints help define what a good response should and should not do.
- Specify the output shapeAI assistants perform more predictably when the desired structure is clear.
- Show what good looks likeExamples can communicate style, structure and level of detail more efficiently than long explanations.
Work With the Assistant Through Iteration
3 hours and longer- Do not search for the perfect one-shot promptComplex work often improves through several exchanges.
- Ask the assistant to clarifyWhen the task depends on information that has not yet been supplied, participants can ask the assistant to identify what it needs before producing the final output.
- Compare, critique & improveParticipants use AI assistants to generate alternatives, compare approaches, identify weaknesses, challenge a draft and propose revisions rather than accepting the first plausible response.
- Manage context across the conversationLong conversations can accumulate outdated assumptions, superseded instructions or irrelevant material.
Evaluate the Output & Build Repeatable Practice
Full day only- Judge the output against the taskFluent language can still be inaccurate, generic, incomplete or inappropriate for the intended audience.
- Verify what mattersParticipants use proportionate verification when outputs contain factual claims, calculations, references, recommendations or other information whose accuracy matters.
- Keep human judgment & accountabilityAI can support drafting, analysis, comparison and idea development without owning the final professional judgment.
- Save patterns — not magic promptsSuccessful interactions can be turned into reusable templates containing the task, context requirements, inputs, constraints, output shape, quality criteria and review steps.
