About this session

Retirement planning in Spain starts with the Social Security record but can extend far beyond it.

An employee may build a contributory retirement pension through Seguridad Social, participate in an occupational pension through an employer or sectoral arrangement, hold other complementary retirement products, and accumulate additional savings and investments over a working life.

This session starts with the public pension record.

Participants learn how to review their vida laboral and bases de cotización, why those records matter, how the base reguladora and contribution history combine in the pension calculation, and why the calculation methodology entered a major transition from 2026.

They also learn why retirement age is not one fixed number for every employee and how ordinary, early, delayed, active, partial, and flexible retirement are different legal pathways.

The later modules examine occupational retirement provision.

Participants distinguish planes de pensiones de empleo, simplified employment pension plans, and other employer pension commitments; identify employer and employee contributions; review costs and investment information; and understand preservation, transfer, beneficiary, and liquidity questions.

The session finishes by bringing state and occupational pension resources into one retirement-income map and a practical Spain Retirement Review Checklist.

  • Distinguish ordinary, early & delayed retirementParticipants compare ordinary retirement with voluntary or involuntary early-retirement pathways and jubilación demorada.
