EU AI Act: new bans and a generative-AI labeling deadline
What’s happening
Under the AI Omnibus (Regulation (EU) 2026/1744, in force since July 27, 2026), new bans apply to AI that generates non-consensual intimate images or child sexual abuse material. Providers of generative AI tools placed on the market before Aug. 2, 2026 must also meet the Article 50(2) rules on machine-readable labeling of AI-generated content. Earlier bans, including emotion recognition in the workplace, have applied since Feb. 2, 2025.
What to do
Ask vendors of the generative AI tools your employees use to confirm compliance, and update acceptable-use policies to cover the banned uses.
