About this session
Each person builds a seasonal table centerpiece with a florist: a low dish or a log base, soaked floral foam or a chicken-wire frame, fresh spruce, pine, eucalyptus and holly, dried oranges, pine cones and berries, and candles in holders at the center, for the office reception or the holiday table at home. The florist shows the techniques step by step, starting with a demonstration piece built in front of the group. It suits groups of eight to twenty-five and nobody needs to have arranged anything before. Everyone leaves with a finished centerpiece that lasts through the holidays with water.
It runs in person only, because the foliage, foam and water do not travel well: it needs tables with cover, a floor that can take needles and drips, access to water for soaking the foam, and a bin for the trimmings. Workbliss brings the florist, the foliage, the bases, the candles and the tools, and the client provides the room and the water. Secateurs are used with the florist’s instructions, and candles are shown placed so no flame can reach the greenery; the florist offers battery candles for any office that bans a flame. A workshop, not a floristry course.
What your people take away
- Use the fresh and dried foliage, candles and decorations supplied to build a centerpiece from scratch
- Follow a florist’s simple techniques for soaking, greening and shaping that anyone can manage
- Leave with a finished centerpiece for the holiday table or the office reception
- Place candles in a centerpiece so no flame can reach the foliage, and know when to use battery ones
- Keep a centerpiece fresh through the holidays by watering the foam and refreshing what fades
