About this session
The best camera is the one in your pocket, and most people use a tenth of it. This session is a hands-on tour of the camera and the editing tools on a phone, built around the photos people actually need at work: a headshot, pictures of their work and team, and the shots they share.
It is taught on iPhone, and every setting has its Android equivalent, so everyone takes part with their own phone.
Participants begin with the settings that change everything, such as the grid, exposure, HDR and formats, and learn to see light before they shoot: where to stand, which way to face and when a window beats a studio.
Composition comes next: the rule of thirds, clean backgrounds, angles and distance, and a consistent look. Then editing, with the five sliders that matter, cropping, straightening and retouching with restraint.
The session ends with a headshot by a window, taken in ten minutes, and a small library of photos of work and workplace that people can use, with permission and privacy handled.
The goal is photos people are proud to put their name next to, taken with what is already in their hand.

What’s covered
Set Up Your Camera
Every length- Settings that change everythingThe grid, exposure control, HDR, formats and the lens you use decide most of a photo before you press the button.
- See the light firstSoft, directional light from a window or open shade flatters people and products; overhead office light does the opposite.
- Hold, tap, lockTapping to focus, sliding to expose and locking both takes ten seconds and fixes most blurry, dark or blown-out photos.
- Portrait mode, and when to skip itBackground blur is lovely on a face and messy on hair, glasses and hands; knowing when to switch it off matters.
Compose Like a Photographer
90 minutes and longer- Thirds and leading linesPlacing the subject off-center and using lines in the scene makes a photo feel deliberate.
- Clean backgroundsA step to the left, a lower angle or a plain wall removes the clutter that makes photos look amateur.
- Angles, distance and the 2x lensEye level, slight angles and a little distance with the 2x lens are kinder to faces than the wide lens up close.
- Your lookA consistent light, color and crop across photos reads as a style, even to people who could not say why.
Edit on Your Phone
2 hours and longer- The five sliders that matterExposure, contrast, warmth, saturation and sharpness, in that order and in small moves, cover almost every edit.
- Crop and straightenStraight horizons and a tighter crop do more than any filter.
- Retouch with restraintRemoving a stray cable or a blemish is fine; smoothing skin into plastic is a tell.
- Presets and apps worth havingA saved preset in the built-in editor, plus one or two free apps, is all most people need.
Headshots and Work Photos
Half day only- A headshot in ten minutesA window, a plain background, the 2x lens and a friend holding the phone produce a headshot good enough for LinkedIn and the company site.
- Photos of your workProducts, screens, whiteboards, sites and teams at work photograph well with the same rules.
- Permission, privacy and brandWho is in the photo, what is on the screen behind them and the company’s brand guidelines all come before posting.
- Build a small libraryTen good photos, organized in an album, means never scrambling for an image again.
