About this session

Smoking, vaping and other nicotine products can become closely connected with stress, concentration, social routines, breaks and working patterns.

Because nicotine dependence involves both physical cravings and established habits, changing use is rarely a matter of willpower alone.

In this practical session, participants explore how nicotine affects the body, why cravings and withdrawal occur and how routines, environments and emotions can reinforce continued use.

The facilitator supports participants to identify personal triggers, compare evidence-based support options and prepare for either reduction or a quit attempt without judgment or pressure.

The session recognizes that people may be at different stages of change. Participants can focus on reducing exposure, preventing relapse, preparing to quit or supporting someone else while maintaining clear boundaries around individualized treatment and medication advice.

Behavioral support and evidence-based cessation treatments can improve the likelihood of stopping tobacco use successfully, with appropriate options depending on individual circumstances and current local clinical guidance.

This session provides general education about smoking, vaping, nicotine dependence, harm reduction and cessation support.

It does not prescribe nicotine-replacement products, recommend medication, assess individual dependence or determine whether vaping is appropriate for a particular participant.

Participants who are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication, living with significant health conditions or experiencing severe withdrawal or mental-health concerns should seek individualized advice from an appropriate healthcare professional.

No participant is required to disclose nicotine use or personal health information.
