About this session

Retirement planning in Hong Kong starts with MPF, but it rarely ends there.

Employees can accumulate mandatory MPF benefits through work, hold personal accounts from previous employment, make additional voluntary contributions, encounter employer voluntary contributions or ORSO arrangements, and build private retirement resources outside the MPF system.

This session helps employees see those pieces as one retirement picture without treating them as interchangeable products.

Participants learn how mandatory MPF contributions work, how eMPF supports account administration, how to read fund risk, fees and performance information, and how the Default Investment Strategy differs from selecting its underlying funds individually.

They also examine account consolidation and transfer concepts without being encouraged to move money simply for the sake of doing so.

The later modules compare ordinary voluntary contributions, Special Voluntary Contributions, Tax Deductible Voluntary Contributions and private retirement plans such as QDAP at an educational level.

Participants then explore what can happen to MPF at retirement, how private income sources may sit alongside it, and what longevity, inflation, healthcare, housing, beneficiaries and other planning questions mean for an ongoing retirement review.

The result is a Hong Kong Retirement Review Checklist rather than a prescribed financial strategy.

  • Prepare for MPF withdrawal and broader retirement-income questions through a repeatable Hong Kong retirement review
