About this session
Retirement savings in India can sit across several systems that behave very differently. An employee may have an EPF balance, EPS pension service, an NPS Tier I account, employer retirement benefits, VPF, PPF, private retirement products, and other savings or investments.
Putting all of them under the heading 'retirement' does not make their rules interchangeable.
This session starts by separating EPF, EPS and EDLI and showing employees how to review UAN, passbook and service information before making retirement decisions.
Participants then explore NPS as a different, market-linked retirement system — including PRAN, Tier I, Corporate and All Citizen models, Pension Fund and asset-allocation choices, Active Choice, Auto Choice and the newer Multiple Scheme Framework — without receiving investment recommendations.
The later modules examine the retirement layer beyond EPF and NPS, including VPF, employer superannuation where offered, PPF and private pension or annuity arrangements at a high level.
Participants then connect those resources with current EPF and NPS exit rules, EPS pension questions, NPS annuity and newer retirement-income options, inflation, longevity, healthcare, nominations and family considerations.
They leave with an India Retirement Review Checklist rather than a prescribed retirement strategy.

What’s covered
Understand Your EPF & EPS Record
Every length- Separate EPF, EPS & EDLI before reviewing the numbersParticipants learn the different roles of the Employees' Provident Fund, Employees' Pension Scheme, and Employees' Deposit Linked Insurance.
- Use UAN & the member passbook to follow the retirement recordParticipants learn how UAN supports continuity across covered employment and how Member IDs, contribution records and passbook information can be reviewed.
- Understand EPS service without trying to calculate the pensionParticipants explore how eligible service, pensionable salary, age and the applicable pension category can affect EPS rights.
- Treat job changes & withdrawals as retirement decisions, not administration onlyParticipants examine what should be checked when employment ends.
Understand NPS & How It Is Invested
90 minutes and longer- Distinguish NPS from EPF & understand the account structureParticipants learn that NPS is a PFRDA-regulated, defined-contribution and market-linked retirement system rather than another EPF account.
- Understand who makes the investment choicesParticipants examine Pension Fund and asset-allocation choice under current NPS rules.
- Compare Active Choice, Auto choice & Multiple Scheme FrameworkParticipants learn how Active Choice allows direct allocation decisions, Auto Choice uses age-linked life-cycle allocation, and the Multiple Scheme Framework can provide additional scheme flexibility for eligible non-government subscribers.
- Read NPS information without chasing short-term returnsParticipants compare account statements, contribution records, scheme information, asset exposure, charges and longer-term performance using consistent questions.
Build the Retirement Layer Beyond EPF & NPS
3 hours and longer- Understand VPF without assuming more EPF is always betterParticipants learn how Voluntary Provident Fund contributions can add employee saving within the provident-fund structure where applicable and why additional employee contribution does not automatically create additional employer matching.
- Place employer superannuation & gratuity in the right categorySome employers provide an approved superannuation arrangement or other retirement support, while eligible employees may also receive gratuity on qualifying employment exits.
- Understand PPF & other long-term personal savingsParticipants position Public Provident Fund and other long-term personal savings alongside employment and pension systems rather than treating them as interchangeable with EPF or NPS.
- Compare private pension & annuity products by characteristicsParticipants compare supplied private retirement products using contribution or premium commitment, guarantees, non-guaranteed benefits, investment exposure, costs, liquidity, surrender conditions, payout options, survivor benefits and provider risk.
Move From Retirement Savings to Retirement Income
Full day only- Understand EPF & EPS at the retirement transitionParticipants examine how EPF accumulation, EPS pension rights and applicable claim routes can become relevant when employment ends or retirement approaches.
- Use current NPS exit rules — not the old 60 / 40 shortcutParticipants learn that PFRDA materially changed non-government NPS exit rules during 2025 and 2026 and that older explanations of a universal 60% lump sum and 40% annuity are no longer an adequate description of every case.
- Understand annuity, ris & drawdown as different retirement-income toolsParticipants explore annuity income, Retirement Income Schemes and current NPS drawdown options at a high level.
- Build one Retirement Review across all the piecesParticipants bring EPF, EPS, NPS, employer retirement resources, PPF, private plans and other assets into one review process covering retirement income, inflation, longevity, healthcare, housing, family responsibilities, nominations and unresolved professional questions.
